Grounding, Earthing & Dirty Feet: Why I’m a Barefoot Warrior (and Why You Might Want to Be Too)

If you’ve ever seen me barefoot in the garden with a cuppa in hand, you’ll already know—I’m a big fan of earthing (also known as grounding). My feet are almost always dirty, not because I forget to wear shoes, but because I choose not to.
Every morning, as part of my daily ritual, I get outside and connect with the Earth. Sometimes I potter around the garden, other times I stretch or move through a bit of yoga or gentle exercise, but often I’m just out there with my feet on the grass, breathing deeply and waking up slowly. It’s one of the most grounding and calming ways to start the day.
This practice is called earthing or grounding, and although it may sound simple (because it is), its benefits are anything but basic.
What Is Earthing?
Earthing refers to direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth—like walking barefoot on grass, soil, sand, or even concrete (as long as it’s not painted or sealed). The idea is that the Earth carries a subtle negative charge, and when we make direct contact with it, we can absorb those electrons. This can help to:

Reduce inflammation
Improve sleep
Lower stress levels
Increase feelings of calm and wellbeing
Support the body’s natural healing processes
It’s not woo-woo—it’s backed by emerging science, and it makes intuitive sense. We are bio-electrical beings, living on an electrical planet. But in the modern world, we’ve become disconnected. Insulated soles, indoor lifestyles, and constant screen time leave many of us cut off from this natural energy source. Earthing helps us reconnect.
My Grounding Routine

For me, grounding isn’t just something I do occasionally—it’s part of my lifestyle. Whether I’m walking in the woods, gardening, or simply enjoying a few peaceful minutes with my coffee, I make a conscious effort to get my bare feet on the ground every single day.
I also carry that connection into the night. I sleep on a grounding mat, which means I’m getting around 8–9 hours of earthing while I sleep. It’s made a noticeable difference to the quality of my rest, and I feel more balanced, calm, and refreshed in the mornings.
Want to Try It Yourself?
The easiest way to start grounding is to just kick your shoes off and go outside. But if that’s not always practical—whether because of the weather, location, or lifestyle—there are ways to bring the benefits indoors.
That’s where Earthing Revolution comes in. They’re the official UK distributor of Clint Ober’s earthing products, offering everything from grounding mats and bed sheets to patches and testers. I’m personally affiliated with them because I genuinely love and use their products.
If you decide to buy through my link, I’ll receive a small commission—at no extra cost to you. It’s a lovely way to support what I do, and I only ever recommend things I truly believe in and use myself.
Final Thoughts
Earthing is one of the most natural, accessible, and powerful practices you can add to your day. You don’t need fancy equipment to get started—just your bare feet and a patch of earth. But if you want to take it further, especially during the colder months or for while you sleep, the products from Earthing Revolution are well worth exploring.
So, here’s your invitation: kick off your shoes, step outside, and see what happens when you reconnect with the ground beneath your feet. You might be surprised by how much calmer, clearer, and more energised you feel.
With muddy feet and grounded vibes,
